In a post-pandemic world that is often dependent on our screens and gadgets for connection, we often forget about the magic and importance of face-to-face human connection. Even though masks and lockdowns are in the rearview mirror for most, many of the social connection and routines of pre-pandemic have not returned, and The GenWell Project wants to help all Canadians build or rebuild healthier connection habits which have a positive impact on our mental and physical well-being. GenWell Weekend has been a catalyst for bringing people together in person since 2016 but is more important today than ever before. From September 22 – 24, all Canadians are encouraged to make time to connect with family, friends, neighbours, classmates, and colleagues and help build the social connections that can give everyone a greater sense of connection and belonging.
GenWell: A Beacon of Connection
Since its inception in 2016, GenWell has been on a mission to educate, empower, and catalyze Canadians around the profound importance of face-to-face human connections and social health. It’s a movement that acknowledges the value of both deep, meaningful connection and the casual collisions that give us a sense of connection, community and belonging, leading to happier and healthier people and society.

The Power of Human Connection
Before we delve into the details of GenWell Weekend, let’s take a moment to appreciate the impact of human connection:
- Health and Longevity: Research consistently shows that people with strong social connections tend to live longer and healthier lives. Human interaction boosts our immune systems, reduces stress, and even lowers the risk of chronic illnesses.
- Happiness: Research has shown that social connection and the relationships that are built is the largest contributor to happiness. The laughter, shared experiences, and emotional support that comes from face-to-face interactions are unparalleled.
- Building Connections Everywhere: A connected society is a thriving society. When neighbors know each other, classmates become friends, and colleagues share more than just a workplace, people within become more resilient, compassionate, and vibrant.
- Personal Growth: Human connections expose us to diverse perspectives, expanding our horizons and helping us grow as individuals. Through interaction, we learn, empathize, and become better versions of ourselves.
- Belonging: Feeling connected to others fosters a deep sense of belonging. It’s a fundamental human need, and when met, it can alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
GenWell Weekend: Your Excuse to Connect
Now that we understand the profound impact of human connection let’s dive into how GenWell Weekend on September 22-24 can serve as your catalyst to reconnect and build lasting bonds:
- Purposeful Gathering: GenWell Weekend is a call to action. It’s a designated time when Canadians from coast to coast are encouraged to come together, either with familiar faces or new acquaintances. Whether it’s hosting a family barbecue, arranging a neighborhood potluck, reuniting with old friends or colleagues or gathering with your classmates, the possibilities are endless.
- Digital Detox: In a world overrun by screens and notifications, GenWell Weekend encourages us to break free from our digital tethers. It’s an opportunity to disconnect from technology and immerse ourselves fully in the company of others.
- Diverse Connections: GenWell Weekend is not limited to a specific group. You can reach out to family, friends, neighbors, classmates, or colleagues, ensuring that your circle of connections widens. It’s a chance to build bridges between generations, cultures, and communities.
- Personal Growth: By embracing face-to-face interactions, you’re not just nurturing your existing connections; you’re also opening doors to new friendships and experiences. The weekend might inspire you to explore shared hobbies, embark on new adventures, or simply enjoy heartfelt conversations.
- Registration for Change: By registering your intention to participate in GenWell Weekend at www.GenWellProject.org, you become part of a movement dedicated to building a more connected Canada. Your commitment sends a powerful message that you recognize the value of human connection and its potential to transform lives.
- Thriving Together: GenWell Weekend is about more than individual happiness; it’s about contributing to a more connected and compassionate society. When Canadians across the country come together during this weekend, we collectively foster a sense of unity and belonging that extends far beyond those three days.
GenWell Weekend, taking place from September 22 to 24, is your chance to be part of something bigger than yourself. It’s an opportunity to embrace the power of face-to-face interactions, to reconnect with those who matter most, and to forge new connections that can enrich your life and the lives of others.
GenWell, Canada’s Human Connection Movement, has paved the way for us to prioritize human connections in an increasingly disconnected and digital age.
