Social Connection as a solution
Today the World Health Organization released their first report from the Social Connection Commission focused on social health as a pillar of well-being, on equal footing with physical and mental health. This is a watershed moment in global public health—and a powerful validation of what so many of us have believed, lived, and worked toward for years.
Today’s global launch of the flagship report was filled with emotion, urgency, and optimism. We heard from world leaders and global experts who’ve been tirelessly sounding the alarm: loneliness is a public health crisis. And more importantly, social connection is a solution we can build—together.
On page 116 of that very report, GenWell was recognized for our work and leadership.

Our work over the last nine years—catalyzing action through seven national campaigns, educating through social health workshops across Canada, and helping Canadians understand, prioritize, and practice healthier connection habits—was highlighted as an example of upstream, population-based action to support social connection.
To say we’re proud is an understatement. But more than that, we’re energized.
We’ve believed, since we launched Canada’s Human Connection Movement in 2016, that connection isn’t just nice to have. It’s a human necessity. A public health imperative. And now, the WHO has officially said the same.
Thank you to Alana Officer Christopher Mikton, the global commissioners on the commission and the incredible WHO team for your powerful work and support of our mission to build a more connected Canada—and ultimately, a more connected world.
To our partners, volunteers, supporters, donors, funders community members, and fellow changemakers:
This global acknowledgement is a milestone, not a finish line.
