For Civic & Community Leaders

Strengthening the Human Foundations of Our Communities

Communities are carrying more complexity and responsibility than ever. At the same time, residents are feeling less connected—to one another and to the institutions meant to support them.

How we respond now will shape how connected, resilient, and supported our communities feel in the years ahead.

What It Is

The Civic and Community Leaders Social Health Workshop helps municipalities and cross-sector partners make social health a visible, practical part of community leadership, planning, and policy.

Through engaging, evidence-informed learning, leaders gain shared language, common understanding, and practical tools to integrate connection into the work they’re already doing, without adding new layers or competing priorities.

Who It's For

Designed for leaders who influence policy, programs, and the places where people gather, including:
• Municipal departments & elected offices
• Public health & community health organizations
• Education & post-secondary institutions
• Libraries, arts & cultural organizations
• Business associations & local employers
• Community foundations & service organizations
• Youth, seniors, newcomer & accessibility-serving groups
• Civic agencies, commissions & public partners

Impact

Why This Matters

Social health—the quality of our relationships and sense of inclusion and belonging—shapes:
• trust in institutions
• participation & civic engagement
• wellbeing & resilience
• collaboration across sectors

When social health weakens, pressure on systems increases. When it strengthens, communities function better with the resources they already have.

INTRODUCING

GenWell For Civic and Community Leaders

These workshops equip leaders and communities to understand why social connection matters and how to act on it. Participants gain practical insights, tools, and shared language to strengthen relationships, align efforts, and embed connection into programs, policies, and community priorities.

What Leaders Learn

Participants explore:
• Why social health belongs in community leadership
• How disconnection shows up across systems & outcomes
• Practical ways to embed connection into programs & policy
• Opportunities to align efforts and act together

Workshops also create intentional space for leaders to connect and build trust—because change begins with people.

What Communities Gain

Communities that host a workshop:
• Build shared understanding
• Strengthen cross-sector relationships
• Integrate connection into existing priorities
• Equip leaders with practical tools that apply immediately

Hosts also receive follow-up insights and resources to sustain momentum.
